Category Archives: other photo sessions.

here are some of my faves from 2008 — from weddings, portrait sessions, and my personal life.  i had almost 30 photos that are my faves from the year, and sort of randomly selected ten of them…

this is definitely my favourite detail shot from the year…

for a band i photographed in january…

i can’t even identify what i love about this photo.  i know it’s not technically a top ten, but there’s something about it that i love so much…

this one is so much better bigger…. there’s something about zin’s face that is just so perfect…

and, without question, my favourite photo from 2008….

last week, i had the awesome opportunity to hang out with zin and take some photos of her before her first baby is born in a few weeks. she is absolutely gorgeous and totally sweet and up for anything, and i really had a great time. plus, her cousin tas made the most delicious green curry for dinner — thank you so much for inviting me to stay!

zin is a natural supermodel.

as you can see, this is not at all a traditional maternity shoot.  i love that zin was up for something new and more fashion-y.

awesome photos can be taken anywhere, including in the mail room…

zin’s husband hus got involved.  i’m pretty much in love with all of the photos of the two of them together…

this is 100% out of focus, but for some reason, i’m crazy about it.

i lovelovelovelovelove these two (photos and people).

when people ask how i became a photographer, bodhi always comes up. in may of 2007, i was out with my little point and shoot camera, taking some photos, and there was a band playing outside on robson st. i really liked their music so i bought their cd and watched for a bit and took some photos of them. i felt like i was kinda creepy, taking their picture, so when i got home, i emailed bodhi so they could see them. well, a couple weeks later, i got an email from him, asking if i’d take their photos… like, for real. it had never occurred to me that i could actually take photos for more than just fun. so, i decided to take a leap, and got my first dslr a few months later. bodhi and i emailed sporadically over that time, but so much was going on for everyone, that it wasn’t until last week that we actually did the shoot… over a year later… he’s now starting under his own name, and has a new bandmate, justin. it was good to finally do this… bodhi and justin are both super cool guys that are willing to do anything (include risk their lives for a photo. at least bodhi is, as you’ll see later…)

i love how no matter times i shoot in gastown, i always find something new…

my awesome assistant ali (amazing alliteration…) got this shot of justin walking! love it!

so sad that part of this was covered by a gate… well, at least they didn’t paint over it, i suppose…

this might look like it’s all nice and safe, but it sure as heck wasn’t…

when we pushed this chair down the alley, we had no idea that it belonged to someone, and that that someone would shout out “give me back my chair!” while we were taking this photo… who knew…

bodhi & justin, i had so much fun with you, and i look forward to part two of your shoot after my return!! oh, and to going to one of your shows!!!

last friday, i went to orcas island to shoot a wedding, and i just wanted to share a few of the “getting there” photos. my friend graeme came with, and we had a nice day — lunch in anacortes, then a beautiful ferry ride, and finally, a bit of driving around orcas island.

poor graeme, i made him be my model… how could i not — this wall is amazing!!

most amazing sky ever…

the first of about a million deer that we saw in the 30 hours we were there…

this is graeme’s “i’m sick and tired of you and your camera” face… he makes this face a lot…

kristen is a seattle-based photographer/friend of mine, and last week, i photographed her and her husband nick just outside of seattle.  unfortunately, we got a late start (too much talking over dinner), so we didn’t have a whole lot of light to work with for the photos… that’s ok, we’ll just have to hang out again soon!!

this location provided several great (although filthy) props for us to use…

i love kristen’s face here…

isn’t this location amazing?!  and the light was perfect (when present).

i took this shot using a video light, which explains why you can still (barely) see the moon in the sky — and the adorable nick and kristen…

ok folks, i’m so sorry i haven’t responded to the insanely long list of emails i must respond to.  i was out of town and shot three weddings and two portrait sessions in 7 days, and yesterday, after the third, just crashed.  i just woke up after a 12 hour sleep.  i absolutely must run some errands today, but i promise to respond to all of my emails by tonight.  thank you so much for your patience!!

lots to come, including…

lara & steve :: wedding

kristen & nick :: couple session

my travels to orcas island

keith & leanne :: wedding

leigh & leslie :: wedding

as  you can tell from my blog entries this summer, i am available for worldwide destination weddings.  i am also available for worldwide portrait sessions.  perhaps you’d like to return to the university city where you met, or your favourite vacation spot — for your engagement photos.  maybe you are planning a family vacation to disney world and would like someone to document it — let me know!  my destination portrait packages are all-inclusive — they come with the session, all of my travel costs (airfare, lodging, etc.) and a disc of all high-resolution images!  destination packages start at $750… contact me for further details!

i first met with lara a few weeks back, and when she told me about her little family that is coming together later this month, i absolutely could not wait to meet her fiance, steve and her daughter, keyanna. it was so clear how much steve and lara love keyanna, and that she is the priority in their lives. keyanna had everyone laughing the whole time, and lara and steve were right in on the silliness.

this is definitely one of my favourite photos from the session. steve is CRAAAAZZZYYY about basketball, and so is keyanna…

keyanna’s a total pro.

you can see where she gets her moves from…

this shot was aaalllllll keyanna… she chose the location, composition, posing… she’s a natural photographer!! ;o)

my favourite from the day…

steve and keyanna love vera’s, so we stopped there for a burger and a few photos… keyanna’s face and body language crack me up here…

all of the following shots are straight out of camera, no editing.  that sunset was insane.

after keyanna was finished picking about a hundred thousand seashells, we called it a night.

lara and steve and keyanna, i can’t wait to see you all again when your family comes together in a few weeks!!  xoxoxo

i recently shot a boudoir session with a wonderful client, v. i’m super happy with these shots, and i know she is too (since she gave her permission to post them here). :o)

i have password-protected the previous post, because i don’t want anyone to be unprepared for the content.  to me, these photos are extremely tasteful, but i respect the fact that everyone’s opinion of this is different.  a couple of the photos do show my client topless, so if that makes you uncomfortable… well, then obviously don’t look at it.  :o)
