Monthly Archives: December 2008

here are some of my faves from 2008 — from weddings, portrait sessions, and my personal life.  i had almost 30 photos that are my faves from the year, and sort of randomly selected ten of them…

this is definitely my favourite detail shot from the year…

for a band i photographed in january…

i can’t even identify what i love about this photo.  i know it’s not technically a top ten, but there’s something about it that i love so much…

this one is so much better bigger…. there’s something about zin’s face that is just so perfect…

and, without question, my favourite photo from 2008….

this is my wonderful sister ashley, who i love so so much. ashley is such a sweet person, and totally dedicated to helping others and treating people well. i’m so glad i got to see her last year, and can’t wait to see her again soon.

ashley, you’re the best sister ever! i hope you have a very happy birthday. come see me soon — karim and i miss you!!!

i was feeling sort of nostalgic today, and was going through some of my old photos, and decided to edit them for fun.  these were taken with my old camera, a canon s3is point and shoot…

i’d just had the camera for a week or two and was pretty proud of myself for learning how to shoot manually to take this shot…

a balcony in new orleans…

the lorraine motel in memphis, tennesse, where martin luther king jr. was assassinated…

as you can tell, i made it to seattle safe and sound. i spent christmas with my friend graeme and his parents. it was very kind of them to allow me to spend christmas with them, and i had a great time.

the adorable little tree that graeme’s mom picked up…

and here’s the christmas dinner we made… turkey, stuffing, brussels sprouts, sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes, biscuits… and of course, some nice wine!

i am posting this very unflattering picture of graeme because it cracks me up. and those of you that know graeme will laugh your head off by the photo after this one…

his wii character. have you ever seen such a perfect likeness?! hahaha.

john was sad when we had to wait to play wii

so, turns out i should be a professional boxer… according to my wii sports boxing abilities…

punching like a madman…

seriously, this was such a great christmas. we basically just ate, played wii, and watched tv… the planet earth series and it’s always sunny in philadelphia and lost: season 4.

san jose photographer michelle asked: “how do you book all your wonderful clients?”

this is a great question! and the honest answer is: i be myself! when i go to my consultations, i don’t dress up or pretend to be someone i’m not. i’m always professional, of course, but that also happens to be my regular personality, you know? i am honest and upfront about all of my packages, my style, my experience, etc. and by the end, we pretty much know if we’re right for each other. and i’m lucky that the vast majority of people i meet with are super cool too, and we just have a great time laughing and chatting. i think that might be in part because most brides that i meet with have been following my blog for a while, so they already have a bit of a feel for what i’m like. although i am not very funny in my blog, and i’m freakin’ hilarious in real life, so i luck out that they somehow sense my awesomeness through my blog.

i think that’s really all you can do. on the wedding day, you’re going to spend a lot of time with the couple (especially the bride), and i always say that even after that day, i have to look at their face for a long time while editing, so i want to make sure we love each other!

:: if you have a question or topic, please comment or email me, and i’ll add yours to the queue!! thanks so much for your help with winter blogging! :o)

that loved watching the roaring fireplace video that is always on an off-cable channel on christmas day? well, i don’t have a tv anymore, but i do have this…

merry christmas!

a few photos from early today.

ok, so, i’m currnetly on a commuter bus down to seattle. yes, i know that means i’m crazy. please, everyone, send good thoughts my way!! the roads are absolutely ridiculous, but apparently, once we cross the border, it’s pretty clear. can’t wait.

anyways, my email responses might be a little slower than usual for the next few days, but i’ll do my best to get back to everyone asap!

happy holidays!
