Monthly Archives: September 2008

i can see that i have several voicemail messages, but for some reason, can’t check them from here in seattle. if you have called me, please email me at kristel(at)kristelwyman.com or phone me at 206.369.2258. this number will be good until monday october 6th, when i will be flying to prague, and then touring the czech republic for two weeks. i will be able to schedule consultations and sessions via email while away — i will try to check my email at least every other day or so. business will carry on as usual as soon as i return. i’m so sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

when people ask how i became a photographer, bodhi always comes up. in may of 2007, i was out with my little point and shoot camera, taking some photos, and there was a band playing outside on robson st. i really liked their music so i bought their cd and watched for a bit and took some photos of them. i felt like i was kinda creepy, taking their picture, so when i got home, i emailed bodhi so they could see them. well, a couple weeks later, i got an email from him, asking if i’d take their photos… like, for real. it had never occurred to me that i could actually take photos for more than just fun. so, i decided to take a leap, and got my first dslr a few months later. bodhi and i emailed sporadically over that time, but so much was going on for everyone, that it wasn’t until last week that we actually did the shoot… over a year later… he’s now starting under his own name, and has a new bandmate, justin. it was good to finally do this… bodhi and justin are both super cool guys that are willing to do anything (include risk their lives for a photo. at least bodhi is, as you’ll see later…)

i love how no matter times i shoot in gastown, i always find something new…

my awesome assistant ali (amazing alliteration…) got this shot of justin walking! love it!

so sad that part of this was covered by a gate… well, at least they didn’t paint over it, i suppose…

this might look like it’s all nice and safe, but it sure as heck wasn’t…

when we pushed this chair down the alley, we had no idea that it belonged to someone, and that that someone would shout out “give me back my chair!” while we were taking this photo… who knew…

bodhi & justin, i had so much fun with you, and i look forward to part two of your shoot after my return!! oh, and to going to one of your shows!!!

do you happen to know anyone in the czech republic that would be willing to model for me while i’m there (oct. 6 – 21)? i absolutely must have someone to photograph there! ideally, they would already own a wedding dress/suit, but if they don’t, maybe we could find one for them to wear. ideally, they or a friend of theirs would also speak english.

and, just to help google try to get someone over there to read this, i’ll be very specific… looking for models in czech republic — Central Bohemian Region (Středočeský kraj), Prague (Praha), South Bohemian Region (Jihočeský kraj), České Budějovice, Plzeň Region (Plzeňský kraj), Karlovy Vary Region (Karlovarský kraj), Ústí nad Labem Region (Ústecký kraj), Liberec Region (Liberecký kraj), Hradec Králové Region (Královéhradecký kraj), Pardubice Region (Pardubický kraj), Olomouc Region (Olomoucký kraj), Moravian-Silesian Region (Moravskoslezský kraj), Ostrava, South Moravian Region (Jihomoravský kraj), Brno, Zlín Region (Zlínský kraj), or Vysočina Region (Vysočina). They might also be models from Poland, Germany, Austria, or Slovakia. point is, if you or someone you know is anywhere near there, please contact me! :o) (sorry for being so shameless….)

i just stole this from richard and amy’s blog… this is the shot of everyone at our group. everyone looks so nice, it’s too bad i look so dishevelled. oh well, i still like it, and it reminds me of what i fondly call “photo camp.” best time ever.

this was… the shortest session ever.  i guess none of us were really prepared/in the right headspace, because we were all starving to death, and when emily asked if we all just wanted to do it another day and go for dinner and wine… well, it didn’t take long for us to head out for dinner.

note:  my new year’s resolution has been, for at least 5 years, to try to like wine… white wine is growing on me, and emily made a lovely selection.

so, yeah, you’ll see more photos of these two in a month or so.

we started with their two dogs, zizu and hank (isn’t “hank” the best name ever for a dog?)…

i love michael norwood‘s work. and his latest blog entry from his visit to kenya is just amazing. i’ve looked at it about thirty times in the past 24 hours, and urge you to do the same…

i am really looking forward to all of my 2009 weddings, but to be honest, i’m really REALLY looking forward to tas & diraj’s wedding. i wish i could share all the reasons i’m excited for it, but you’ll have to wait for may, as much as it makes me crazy to keep such wonderful secrets! so, after all the emailing tas and i have written each other, i was super excited to hang out with them and do their engagement session.

tas & their dog, clicquot (like the champagne…)

i love the light and the background in these next few shots, and i think they both look AMAZING in them…

i love this relaxed shot… aren’t they so adorable here?!

then we stopped at their place for a quick change of clothing before heading out again… this shot was taken just to see how this blouse would photograph, but i think tas looks ridiculously pretty here, so i kept it…

the opus hotel is such a wonderful location, i’d really love to do an entire shoot in there…

this next shot is the one that basically brought tas & i together (haha)… i remember at our client meeting, she told me she had a photo she wanted on water st, and i said there was a photo i wanted to do on water st… and they were the same! so, here it is… :o)

a few last shots around gastown…

i don’t even know what to say, her legs look so good…

it’s funny how sometimes, i plan a shot down to the most minute details, and then, when i take it, i’m not as happy with it as i thought i’d be… and then there are times when you’re waiting for a taxi, and decide to take just one more photo, and you get something awesome like this…

tas & diraj, i hope you’re having the time of your life on your cruise, and i look forward to seeing you when you get back!!!

just received this sweet email from leigh & leslie… i can’t believe they checked my blog all the way from italy!!

“We just saw the pics you put on your blog – they are beautiful! Can hardly wait to see the rest of them, we are wowed… We are in a little internet cafe in San Gimigniano right now and Leslie’s (almost) in tears… thanks so much for everything and taking such beautiful pictures! 🙂 We look forward to catching up with you upon our return! L&L”

i will be out of vancouver later this week, and will not return to vancouver until the 22nd of october, as i am going to the czech republic for two weeks!

for anyone with a contract out, if you finalize your booking this week before i leave, you will receive 5 additional pages in your album or a complimentary session of your choice. otherwise, it will likely have to wait until i return. i will be checking my email (and hopefully updating my blog) while away, but i don’t know how frequently. any print/product orders will be handled upon my return. for potential clients, please send the regular inquiry through my site, and we will arrange a consultation for when i return.

i apologize for any inconvenience this might cause, but i’m sure you understand that i need vacations too! :o)

i would say that leslie is probably the calmest bride i’ve ever photographed. she was so calm, it made me nervous. when i first met up with her and leigh, i could tell they were super laid back, and their attitude carried them through the wedding day beautifully. their priorities were as followed: marriage, family, friends. and then food. because the food was really good. and you obviously can’t go wrong with cupcakes…

i first went to their condo, and got a few detail shots… leslie’s gorgeous classic dress…

my second-shooter fran got this amazing shoe shot. i seriously love it so so much! wish i had taken it!!

i love the feeling of motion in this shot right after leslie put her shoes on…

i love the next few shots taken during “the reveal…” leigh was so mad at me for making him wait to see leslie! ;o)

i just love leslie’s face when she sees him…

fran captured leigh’s touching reaction too…

so then, we all headed over to granville island to take a few photos there. i love these two sort of abstract photos of leigh & leslie stepping out of the elevator…

granville island is wonderful. and (less so) wonderfully busy…

then it was ceremony time at ferguson point…

i love how even when a noisy plane flew overhead, and everyone looked up and laughed, leigh’s eyes stayed on leslie…

the reception was held at the sequoia grill…

another reason i love leigh: he hates dancing. but i guess leslie loves it, because he surprised her with a first dance, which clearly meant so much to her…

this is one of my favourite moments of the day… leslie’s father watching her mother, who is watching leigh and leslie through tears…

then, we headed down to the beach for a few sunset shots. sometimes, i really love out of focus shots…

leigh and leslie first met while playing volleyball with this same ball… i love that they wanted to do these shots…

leigh and leslie, i hope you’re having the time of your life in italy! looking forward to seeing you when you return!
