i’ve had a long-time love for tea parties. the beautiful colours and flowers and teacups and china and sandwiches… what could ever be better? i recently talked with a bride about the high tea wedding she is planning, and it reminded me of how much i love tea parties, and so, tonight, came across this article.

i just came across this comment on my website (not sure how i missed it before…)

“Kristel I’m Andrew’s Mom and I can’t thank you enough for including Andrew and Rachael in you photo shoot. The pictures are behond words. Wonderful , wonderful work……… Debi”

debi, i know it’s been a while since you sent this, and you’ve since ordered and received your print order… but thank you so much for the kind and thoughtful words, and i apologize for not responding sooner!!

good question.

well, although i specialize in wedding and wedding-related images (engagement, bridal, etc.) i do offer other types of sessions… children/newborn, family, headshots… and pretty much any other type of portrait session you could think of. as well, all of my wedding clients receive complimentary maternity and newborn photo sessions for their own little ones.

please inquire for further details.

a photo from a children’s portrait session:

and a vancouver band session:

i think this is such a visually appealing video… and i like the song too…

i love these two. so so much. they were out with amber and i for hours and hours… i couldn’t tell you how many times they heard us say “just one more shot…” but they never complained, and always gave it their all. it’s pretty clear that these photos reflect that, and i hope that they love them as much as i do.

this belongs on a gigantic canvas…

isn’t sowmya stunning?! i just love this next shot of her…

i love the way harry looks at sowmya…

i’ve been saving this spot for photos for about six months… it came out just like i pictured..

last, but (obviously) not least…

harry and sowmya, amber and i had so much fun with you! thanks for helping make dreams come true… ;o)

after staying up all night editing two absolutely amazing sessions, i don’t have many words to add to the photos…

these were all shot during what became a photo marathon with amber, my friend / superstar photographer…

we mostly stayed in chinatown. i just love the purple next to her gorgeous red hair…

of course, i also love the green next to her red hair too…

umm… yellow’s looking great as well…

wow…

amber and i had been wanting to shoot here for ages and ages… thank you sooo much to amber for setting up the lighting for this shot for me!! so dramatic, i love it!

thank you, haley, for being such a trooper, and so willing to sit in… let’s just say… less than comfortable locations…

so, tonight, i headed up to english bay with my friend vivien, to check out the first night of the international fireworks competition, which is held here every year. this is my third year going to it, and it’s always a great night out for a homebody/workaholic like me. tonight was canada’s entry, and so that was exciting. the interesting thing was that at the beginning, they asked everyone to stand to sing the national anthem… and i swear, i think that vivien and i were the only two that sang along. there were hundreds and hundreds of thousands of people… and seriously, no one knew the words. shame on them!

also, i brought my camera and a couple lenses and my flash and plenty of AA batteries, because i figured i’d take some pictures of the show, and a few of vivien… well, when we got there, i realized that i had left both my camera batteries at home! ugh, dummy dummy! seriously, if i ever show up to a session and make such a dumb mistake, you have my permission to punch me in the face.

so, heads up to my clients… i might randomly google your name and see what comes up… well, here’s what i found for keith and leanne

i’ve just learned that they’re actually even cooler than i thought… and seriously, how talented is keith??!!! now, i really can’t wait til their wedding in september!

a couple weeks ago, i met up with keith and leanne near seattle’s pike place market. i had a great time seeing and photographing them, and am so looking forward to their upcoming wedding on orcas island!

best news stand ever…

this is just such a beautiful spot in the market.

pike place market is full of so many wonderful nooks and crannies…

it is also full of… walls covered in bubble gum…??? so gross, and yet… so awesome.

after plenty of wandering and searching, we were finally able to get these great shots. oh, by the way… totally keith’s idea…

i think this is really romantic, for some reason…

i love silhouette shots…

keith and leanne were very patient with me in helping me get this shot i’ve been wanting to do forever!

alright, the long-awaited post on david and monica’s july 4th wedding in san antonio, texas… lots of photos, so i’ll get straight to business…

ok, so, the ridiculously cool kelly niemann came all the way from houston to shoot with me, and i so appreciate it! when we arrived at the church, monica and all her bridesmaids started to clap and cheer because they were so excited to see us! it was the sweetest thing ever, and i immediately fell madly in love with all of them. oh, and the first thing that was said to us: “i hope you like to dance!” they pretty much made it clear that dancing was required… lots more on that later…

first, the obligatory “texas is hot” complaining shot: it was sooooo hot. and for some reason, the air conditioning in the bride’s room wasn’t working… let’s just say it was disgusting. monica’s bridesmaids keeping her cool…

it’s really obvious that monica and her ladies are super close. here’s a great shot kelly took of all girls pinning their names inside monica’s dress for luck.

i love shoe shots…

i just love this shot of monica and her mom while hearing a message from david to monica…

the look on david’s face while monica was coming down the aisle is both sweet and hilarious…

it was a huge and beautiful catholic ceremony full of lots of little details…

a lasso was placed over david and monica to symbolize their future together

monica and david were so cute, just talking and laughing throughout the entire ceremony. i have about fifty pictures like this, with monica just beautiful and happy

and another one of her mom that really just makes my eyes kinda warm…

the priest, praying during the ceremony…

all the guests joined in prayer…

now, i know i’m totally… *not* mexican… but… i’m definitely having mariachis at my own wedding. that was pretty much the most fun and exciting thing i’ve ever experienced.

for a guy who hates dancing (possibly as much as i do), their first dance was pretty wonderful…

the bouquet toss is always a stressful moment to try to capture, because i have no clue what will happen, but i love this one…

i am void of speech…

monica’s pretty much related to everyone in the state of texas (well, except david, that’d be weird), and it was amazing, the way their whole family pulled together to make this wedding happen. so, basically, everything was done by their family… to prove a point, here’s monica’s cousin’s fiance’s uncle (got it?) doing the music…

i don’t know why, but i love this photo a lot…

the dancing here was the best… from the very first song, *everyone* was on the dance floor…

you might not know this about me, but my favourite thing ever is the chicken dance (actually, if you look back at my photos, you’ll see that i always post from this dance.) sadly, this is a highly underrated piece of music, and it is rarely played at weddings. so, when i heard those first notes, i literally ran across the room, pretty much pushing furniture and guests out of the way to be there…

and the dancing queen himself…

my first big send-off! seriously, vancouverites, get on this. it’s the most fun ever. and the chicken dance. i wasn’t kidding about the chicken dance. oh, and the mariachis. please start having mariachis too!

monica and david, you are wonderful, and i’m so glad i met you and now consider you (and all your friends!) friends! keep in touch, i can’t wait to hear about your life together… in wisconsin… ;o)

also, if you’re in texas, and need a photographer, kelly niemann is amazing. so cool, so fun, so talented. AAANNNDDDD she’s able to take photos *while* line-dancing. she rocks.

oh, for future brides in this situation, i think this is a great idea… david and monica are moving to wisconsin for david to go to school there, and so they had a bunch of postcards for guests to sign, and every few weeks for the several years they’ll be gone, they’ll receive a postcard from texas!
